Since opening in 1967, Specialty Drapery has continually adapted to provide our customers with the latest styles, designs, and technology that the window treatment industry has to offer. As new developments including automation and remote control have been released, we have incorporated these advancements into our product offerings in an effort to provide our clients with the full spectrum of window treatment solutions. Specialty Drapery has identified another product that will bring additional value to our clients. That product is window film! We’ve joined forces with Solar Film, another local Richmond company, to offer the highest quality window film products and installation services to our clientele.

Benefits of Window Film

Window film offers similar benefits as traditional window treatments with one primary difference; most window film varieties are virtually invisible. We’ve added window film to our product offering because we realize that our clients may want to reap the same benefits when their window treatments are open as when they are closed. Window film makes this possible by providing the following four key benefits.

UV Protection

UV rays are the main contributor to fading and damage of window treatments, floors, upholstery, and other decor. Window film blocks up to 99% of UV rays from entering your space, extending the life of your furnishings and floors. Window treatments provide UV protection by intercepting the sun’s UV rays before they strike your floors or upholstered furnishings. However, traditional window treatments are also susceptible to fading and UV damage. Protect your curtains, drapes, and blinds from sun damage with window film.

Glare Reduction

Depending on the time of day and the angle at which sunlight is entering your space, you may experience glare across TV, computer, or mobile device screens. You can block this glare by closing your window treatments, but doing so also blocks your view to the outdoors. Window film allows you to continue enjoying the view through your windows without suffering from glare-induced eye strain or headaches.

Temperature Control

Closed window blinds and drapery absorb a portion of the infrared heat passing through your windows, but this heat-blocking effect comes at the expense of your view to the outdoors. Window film provides similar temperature control benefits as traditional window treatments without compromising the visibility of your home’s surroundings. The film is spectrally selective, reflecting up to 97% of infrared rays, while still allowing natural light through your windows.

Privacy

Both window film and traditional window treatments share the benefit of enhanced privacy. Although most window films don’t offer complete seclusion, they can partially obscure outsiders’ view into your home. This is accomplished with a film of dark exterior appearance, such as 3M Night Vision Series, or with a frosted film. Frosted films add decorative interest to your windows in addition to enhancing privacy.

These principles align with our aim to offer our clients superior quality workmanship and unmatched customer service.
